About Judge Ghiz

Judge Ghiz was elected to her first term to the Hamilton County Court of Common Pleas in November 2012. Prior to becoming a judge, she was a member Cincinnati City Council (2005-2011), while maintaining a private law practice, focusing on labor and employment law.

She was raised in Huntington, West Virginia, directly across the Ohio River from Chesapeake, Ohio. Her love for the City of Cincinnati stems from her childhood in West Virginia, when, as a child, her family would travel to Cincinnati for long weekends in the summer, attending Reds games and frequenting Kings Island.

Outside of her professional career, Judge Ghiz has had a rich history of service to her community. Her involvement has included: tutoring in the Cincinnati Public Schools, (Washington Park Elementary & McKinley Elementary); a former Board Member for Youth Opportunities United; a development committee member for Women Helping Women; a Sunday School Teacher for Holy Trinity-St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church; Pro-Kids, Dress for Success Cincinnati, the American Cancer Society, and the American Red Cross. She was named to the Cincinnati Business Courier’s Forty under 40 class of 2005.

Judge Ghiz's true passion has been as an advocate for her community and public safety. During her term on the bench, she has presided over a number of impactful cases, including the second trial of The State of Ohio v. Raymond Tensing, case no. B1503961 in June 2017. She attended West Virginia University, where she received a B.A. in English in 1991. She earned her J.D. from Capital University Law and Graduate Center (Columbus, Ohio) in 1994.

Judge Ghiz resides in Madeira with her two sons, George (15) and Andrew (13). In her free time, she loves to watch her boys’ athletic games, run, read, and she is a diehard West Virginia Mountaineer and Cincinnati Reds fan.
